The Golden Rule~

This morning we read a bible reading about treating people as you would like to be treated, you know, that kind of reading. This is the bible reading numbers: Luke 6:27-42.

We read it a few times, then we got our task. Our task was to make a DLO about the golden rule.

By the way, the golden rule is "Do to others as you would have them do to you." This is my DLO, I decided to make a poster!

Being a Presenter for the Student Summit 2020!

Today I am blogging about the 2020 Student Summit. In this summit, there were four sessions. Each session lasted for about twenty minutes. For the first two sessions, I was a presenter, with Caleb and Micah. During them, Micah and Caleb were talking, and I was answering questions in the chat. 

We were doing our sessions about stop motion. I learnt a lot about stop motion. I really enjoyed making examples too! Here is one of them, I did it with paper, turning it.

First, we had to choose a topic about the Pope to do our inquiry's on, I chose to do the Vatican City. Then we needed three key questions about it. Next we had to create our Inquiry. It was very fun researching about the Vatican. Okay, enjoy my post! ♥️

Koru and Kowhaiwhai

We had information and links to click on, this is what I have learnt about Korus and Kowhaiwhai whilst answering the questions. Enjoy!

Using the information we have gathered from the sites along with your own research, create a timeline of how pirates operated in the past and present. Include information and names of pirates and location from the 15th Century until now.

Names of famous pirates: 

Zheng Yi Sao.

The most powerful pirate in history was a woman who was born into poverty in Guangzhou, China, in the late 1700s. When pirates attacked her town and the captain took a liking to her, she saw a way out. Zheng yi Sao agreed to marry him only if she got an equal share of his business. When her husband died six years later, she took command of the fleet.

Over the next decade, the pirate queen built a fleet of over 1,800 ships and 70,000 men. On land and sea, Zheng Yi Sao’s power rivaled the emperor himself. Time and again, her ships triumphed over the emperor’s ships. When she was ready to retire, Zheng Yi Sao surrendered - on her own terms, of course. Even though there was a price on her head, she was able to negotiate her freedom, living in peace and prosperity for the rest of her days.

Anne Bonny

Anne Bonny was one of the most famous female pirates, and another Mary Read. They had collaborated after they had war with each other. It seemed that Anne had some type of romantic feelings for Mary since she was named Mark and was dressed as a man. It was clear for Anne’s current husband that she was in love with him/her.

They had been together for awhile now. This is when they had hit Jamaica and started a pirate war. They were caught and arrested in prison. Jack aka Anne’s husband was hung when he had gotten arrested. Mary and Anne were also supposed to get hung but they were both pregnant. So they held the death sentence and stayed behind bars until they gave birth. Unfortunately, Mary had an illness and died or she died while giving birth. Then Anne got to live for another few years and was freed by her rich father. She died at the age of 85, 1782!

Introduction

The Golden Age: 1650 - 1730

Throughout history there have been people willing to rob others transporting goods on the water. These people, known as pirates usually targeted ships, but sometimes they would attack coastal towns. Pirates have existed since ancient times. They threatened the trading routes of ancient Greece, and seized cargoes of grain and olive oil from Roman ships. Piracy still exists today in some parts of the world, especially the South China Seas.

The Gunsway Heist!

Henry Every (Avery) Was only active for 2 years but committed the biggest act of piracy in history. He and his crew joined forces with Thomas Tew and his crew to be the perpetrators of The Gunsway Heist with which they stole $600,172,000. And then found the pirate sanctuary Lebratailia.

Modern Pirates! 

Where they operate:

Somalia has a huge coastline, wrapped around the Horn of Africa. In 2008 many pirate attacks were launched in the narrow channel known as The Gulf of Aden. In response to these attacks and the economic effect they were having on this popular shipping channel, a fleet of international warships are now on daily patrol. Pirates are now known to be using “mother ships” so they can launch attacks further out at sea.

Somali pirates don’t wear eye patches, and instead of swords, they have RPGs (rocket-propelled grenades). They use small, fast speedboats to get around and work with crews of ten or so. Once they find a good target, they launch hooks and rope ladders up to board the ship and overwhelm the crew. They often attack at night.

That was in Somalia, in South East Asia they attacked Sulu and Celebes seas as well as Malacca Strait and Bangladesh.

Has the location where pirates sailed changed over time? Yes, These days pirates are mostly sailing around Africa and China but in the olden days they worked around mainly the Carribean.
