Our Own Diary Entries on a time in Alexander Aitken's life.

Hi Everyone!

This week we read the book The ANZAC Violin by Jennifer Beck and Robyn Belton. The book was about Alexander Aitken traveling with a Violin through WW1. In the book, he got shot, and was taken in an ambulance train, in that scene there was a part from his Diary. That was part of our task, we had to write our own Diary Entries for any part of the story, like being down in the trenches or being shot, stuff like that. I had really fun writing because it's my passion, but thinking of something to write about was a bit hard. In the end I wrote about  the trenches, here is my post!

As I passed my wounded violin to my mate, his face lit up, he loved repairing things. I saw him pick up a piece of wire from a heavy bag of seeds that we used as a cabinet. Then he started to tie weird knots with the wire, he looked up and knew I was confused. "I was a boy scout, he said." I nodded. I backed my head onto the clay and dirt infused wall on the left side of the trench. "Ey, Alec, you want some soup?" Benny said to me, he had his beany over his eyes so I couldn't make eye contact with him. "Uh, no thanks." I gulped saliva. "Aight mate, all the more for me." Then I heard the sachet of soup open, it was a fast rip, but I heard it in slow motion. the paper ripped first, then you heard the tinfoil crackle. You could tell it was cheap. Hot air blew on my face and I turned my face around. I looked over to my left, there was an ocean. I watched it spiral and crash, I loved the sounds. But then I heard something that wasn’t a wave smashing...
